Scientists from multiple disciplines met in Austin to attend the State-of-the-Science Kidney Summit. Participants formed The Whole Kidney Research Community and identified Phase One Strategic Research Goals to tackle the challenges associated with regenerating or engineering a kidney for transplantation.The Summit was led by Dr. Thomas Carroll of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Dr. Leif Oxburgh of the Maine Medical Research Institute. Sam gave a presentation covering some of the challenges faced in cell engineering for organ replacement.
